Deputies of the upper chamber of the Romanian Parliament - the Senate - unanimously adopted a bill banning production, import and sale of plastic bags from January 1, 2019.

"Since July 1, 2018, a ban on the import and production of thin and ultra-thin plastic bags with a handle has been introduced, and since January 1, 2019, the ban has been introduced to sell such packages in all outlets in the country," the document says.

Along with this, it will be allowed to sell only thin and ultra-thin plastic bags without a handle. The law will enter into force after approval by the lower house of parliament - the Chamber of Deputies. The bill was drafted in accordance with the recommendations of the European Commission.
