The world refuses Russian timber March 13, 2022, 5:49 pm

Russia is the world's largest exporter of wood, as well as the main supplier of wood and timber products to Europe, USA and Japan. Export revenues are modest compared to oil and gas revenues, but they bring in billions of dollars a year, according to Earthsight.

The publication turned to the largest importers of Russian wood in the US and Europe.

“We asked them what they would do to help stop the flow of funds feeding the Russian army. Only one, Mondi, the multinational paper giant, has not committed to stop buying wood from Russia.

But four importers identified by Earthsight have so far committed to halt imports from the country: Finnish wood brands UPM, Stora Enso and Metsa, and IKEA, the world's biggest furniture retailer.
